Amber stroked her left foot across the dragon’s cheek, almost gentle and playful—an ironic contrast to the way she had beaten him with that same foot, and she knew it. So did he. She gave him a few more strokes with her toes, massaging the scales near his eye. Goremok quivered in fear.

She pointed down at him and said with a sneer, “How does that feel, dragon? Pretty potent weapons, aren’t they?” Amber prodded him with her toes, drawing a whine of pain. She chuckled at his response. “I see you’re in agreement. And now that you’re lying here, broken, beneath my feet—you’re also in your proper place…”
